The English Lake District & Yorkshire Dales Tour

This fully guided Escorted Tour offers Irish travellers a wonderful opportunity to experience the natural beauty of Northern England. Our English Lake District tour is designed for those who appreciate the ease of coach travel, starting from several convenient pick-up points across Wexford, Wicklow, and Dublin. We travel by ferry from Dublin Port to Holyhead, allowing you to sit back and enjoy the scenery as we make our way towards our base in Cumbria. You will stay at the 3-star Cumbria Grand Hotel for four nights on a half-board basis, meaning both your breakfast and evening meals are included and organised for you.
The English Lake District tour itinerary is packed with highlights that showcase the very best of the region’s character. We visit the largest lake in England, Windermere, where the town of Bowness offers a lovely setting for a walk or an optional boat trip. You will also spend time in Kendal, a town that shares a twin-town link with Killarney and is famous for its mint cake. The journey extends into the Yorkshire Dales, visiting the market town of Settle and the historic streets of Kirby Lonsdale, where the 18th-century architecture and cobbled courtyards remain perfectly preserved.
History and literature fans will particularly enjoy our visit to Grasmere, the village where the poet William Wordsworth lived. You will have time to explore the local museum or pick up some of the world-famous Grasmere gingerbread. In Keswick, you can explore the traditional market square and see the Moot Hall, which remains a central symbol of the town’s heritage. This holiday provides a fantastic balance of organised excursions and free time to explore at your own pace. As this is a coach tour involving various stops, please note that there is a standard level of walking involved, including some steps at different sites, so comfortable footwear is highly recommended. With the services of a professional tour leader throughout, this trip offers great value and a straightforward way to see some of the most beautiful landscapes in the United Kingdom.

Itinerary
1Departing Ireland for our English Lake District tour+
We begin our journey by boarding our comfortable coach at your chosen local pick-up point, travelling towards Dublin Port for the ferry crossing to Holyhead. The drive through North Wales is full of lovely scenery, and we will make a stop for refreshments in the Chester area. We then continue to the Cumbria Grand Hotel, our base for the next four nights. Dinner will be served in the hotel this evening, as it will be throughout our stay.
2Kendal Market and Lake Windermere+
Today we visit Kendal, a popular market town on the banks of the River Kent. Well-known for its limestone architecture and famous mint cake, Kendal has a special connection for Irish visitors as it is twinned with Killarney. In the afternoon, we head to Bowness on the shores of Lake Windermere. As the largest lake in England, it offers fantastic views, which you can enjoy further with an optional boat trip across the water.
3Exploring the Yorkshire Dales+
After breakfast, we head into the Yorkshire Dales for a day of spectacular scenery. We stop for lunch in Settle, a bustling market town situated in the foothills of the Pennines. The afternoon is spent in Kirby Lonsdale, a beautiful town in Cumbria located on the River Lune. You can enjoy a walk through the centre, which is a charming mix of 18th-century stone cottages and elegant buildings set around cobbled courtyards and narrow alleys.
4Market Day in Keswick and Literary Grasmere+
Our excursion today takes us to Keswick, a town rich in local history. We spend time in the Market Square, where you can see the unique Moot Hall and its famous one-handed clock. If it is a market day, you will find plenty of local crafts and food to browse. Later, we move on to Grasmere, once the home of the poet William Wordsworth. You might choose to visit the Wordsworth Museum or try the legendary local gingerbread, which is still made to a traditional recipe.
5Homeward Bound to Dublin+
On our final morning, we enjoy breakfast before setting off back towards Holyhead for our return ferry to Dublin. We will make a scheduled stop along the route for refreshments before catching the boat home, completing our journey through the beautiful northern English countryside.
